Spring Break 2012

For spring break this year, we broke our five-year streak of going to Florida and instead we went to Mobile, Alabama to visit friends and family. The drive is too long to do in a day, so we spent the night in Atlanta on the way down and Augusta on the way back.

Lucky for me, the azaleas were at their peak.

The Original Oyster House on the causeway is one of our favorite restaurants. I think we've been at least once every time we visit Mobile. The next three pictures were taken on the boat dock behind the restaurant. Garrison, Brennan, and Kate

We found an alligator in Daphne to show our mid-Atlantic kids. We don't have these in our neighborhood in Virginia.

We spent one fabulous day in New Orleans with my dad. We went to Cafe du Monde for breakfast so the kids could have their famous beignets. This picture of Kate and my dad is one my all-time favorites.

After lunch we were wandering around the French Quarter and just happened to run right in to Bill Clinton and his entourage of Secret Service agents. We actually thought we had run in to a funeral procession because of all the men wearing suits until we spotted Clinton.

My dad asked one of the secret service agents if Kate could take a picture with him and her Flat Stanley (school project). After initially saying no, arrangements were made so that Kate and I could meet him, shake hands, and take the pic. He then walked across the street to what turned out to be a growing, adoring crowd. Garrison and Brennan also got to shake his hand at that point.

After the Clinton meeting, we spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and sightseeing in the French Quarter.

We also spent a day in Pensacola, Florida (so I guess our five-year streak of vacationing in FL is technically not broken).

We went to another of our favorite restaurants in Pensacola - Flounder's. Have you ever seen key lime pie like this?

As always, the sand was sugar-white and the water was crystal clear.

This was before Garrison's birthday dinner. Finally, a picture with Mimi and Grandpa in it! This one should be captioned "Hilarity with the camera timer."
We spent an evening having a cookout with my best friend Kelli and her family. This was in front of Mobile Bay.
